The Farmville Town Council and the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors formed a joint Tourism Advisory Board to address the growing needs of the area’s tourism industry. The Board’s Strategic Plan identifies the following specific tourism development and marketing programs:
- Disseminating existing/new marketing materials to “get the word out” that we are a desired tourist destination.
- Developing new marketing materials for the area.
- Partnering with other stakeholders and working in unison to market our area.
- Expanding on existing and creating new tourism infrastructure.
- Ensuring that our tourism efforts and outcomes compliment and preserve our unique character.
The Farmville/Prince Edward Tourism Board has also been designated through 2015, as the local Sesquicentennial Committee, which is planning events for the 150th commemoration of the Civil War. In planning for commemoration events, the Board is mindful to be inclusive of and meaningful to all Virginians including diverse racial and ethnic groups, immigrants and citizens who do not have a hereditary link to the American Civil War, and young people who do not understand the relevance of the American Civil War to today’s population.
