FARMVILLE A NATIONAL AWARD WINNER!
Farmville's National Night Out event from August 2011 has been selected by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) as one of the top 25 in the country! In a letter from NATW, the police department was informed that Farmvillle had been selected as a "National Award Winner" for its outstanding participation in the 28th National Night Out crime, drug, and violence prevention program. Farmville's event was ranked 25th nationwide out of a total of 260 participating communities with populations less than 15,000 people. To receive such an award in only our second year of participation in National Night Out is truly remarkable. This award was made possible by the citizens that participated and the neighborhoods that hosted events. We look forward to continued success in 2012.
OPERATION BLUE CHRISTMAS
On December 6th, our local Wal-Mart donated two $125 gift cards to two area children in need. Those kids then were able to go Christmas shopping with Farmville Police officers. The event was organized with the help of the Prince Edward County Dept. of Social Services, who chose the children to participate. It is hoped that, through this program, each child will have a brighter Christmas season despite tough economic times.
