Art Classes

The Recreation Department sponsors a variety of art classes and workshops at different times in the year. The Recreation Department offers art programs for different age groups in various forms of art such as painting, ceramics, art education, and much more. Aquatic Programs

Swimming Lessons

The Recreation Department sponsors the American Red Cross Learn to swim program for both local area Youth and Adults. The American Red Cross Learn to swim program has a swim class to match every swimmer’s ability from non-swimmers to competition swimmers. Currently the Recreation Department only offers swim lessons during the summer at Longwood University’s Lancer Pool. Fitness & Movement

Free-Style Video Aerobics

The Recreation Department sponsors a free video aerobics class for all individuals over 18 years of age interested in aerobics class. Each class session will run for six weeks long and each session will have an exercise theme such as Tae-bo or step aerobics. The course will be free to the public and taught by video instruction. Group Fitness Classes

The Recreation Department sponsors a variety of group fitness classes for adults. The Recreation Department offers such programs as Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Aerobics Classes, Strength Training Classes, and Dance Aerobics Classes. Outdoor Recreational Activities

Fishing

The Recreation Department offers fishing opportunities at Wilck’s Lake and Motley Lake. Individuals are required to have both a State and Town Fishing license to fish in either lake. Town fishing license can be purchased at the Farmville Treasure’s office in the Town Hal building on Main Street. Adult Sports

Slow-Pitch Coed Softball

The Recreation Department oversees the operation of the Slow-Pitch Coed Softball League for local area adults. The Recreation Department offers two seasons of Coed Softball the first beginning in the spring and the last beginning in the summer. The Coed Softball league games are played at the Firemen’s Sports Arena Softball Field. Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball

The Recreation Department oversees the operation of the Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball League for local area men. The Recreation Department currently offers one season of Men’ Softball beginning in August and ending in October. The Men’s Softball League games are played at the Fireman’s Sports Arena Softball Field. Adult Recreational Baseball

The Recreation Department along with other local recreation departments oversees the operation of the Adult Baseball league for local area adults. The Adult Baseball season runs from May through August and concludes with a playoff tournament. What classes would you like to take?

If you would like to take a class that we are not currently offering, let us know so that we may look for an instructor and others who share the same interests. Areas of interest include sports, arts and crafts, music, drama, fitness, self-improvement, travel and many others of which we are not aware. In planning our future line up of programming, trips, and special events, we would like to request your input. Is there a program, trip or event you would like to see offered by our department?
