REGULAR WORK SESSION OF THE FARMVILLE TOWN COUNCIL HELD ON MARCH 5, 2008 At the regular monthly work session of the Farmville Town Council held on March 5, 2008 at 11:00 am in the Conference Room of the Town Manager’s office located at 116 North Main Street, there present were Mayor S. C. Newman, Jr., presiding and Council members D.E. Whitus, D.L. Hunter, S.B. Thompson, C.H. Lafoon, O.S. Overton, A.D. Reid and E.I. Gordon. Also in attendance was Town Manager, Gerald J. Spates. Mayor Newman called the meeting to order and Town Manager Gerald Spates introduced Miss Tori Williams and Dr. Maureen Walls-McKay from Longwood University. Miss Williams and Dr. McKay spoke to Council on the American Cancer Society 2008 Relay for Life to be held at Stubbs Mall on the campus of Longwood University. The event is scheduled for 6:00 pm Friday, April 4, 2008 and will end at 7:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Miss Williams spoke of the event as an opportunity to honor or remember any loved ones that have been touched by cancer. She provided members with a schedule of events and asked that Council consider not enforcing the noise ordinance that evening. Council members spoke of their support of the event and foresee no major issues with the noise ordinance. Mrs. Thompson suggested students hand out flyers to the adjacent property owners notifying them of the event. Council members discussed the items on the agenda for the March 12, 2008 regular Council meeting and took action on the below items: REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE SURPLUS TRACTOR FROM HENRICO COUNTY On motion by Mr. Whitus, seconded by Mr. Hunter and with Council members Whitus, Hunter, Thompson, Lafoon, Overton, Reid and Gordon voting “aye”, Council granted authorization purchase a 1980 John Deere 301 Tractor from Henrico County for $3,500.00 Mr. Spates said the tractor would be used at the Town’s Mottley Lake property located in Prospect. REQUEST USE OF WILCK’S LAKE ON BEHALF OF THE PREGNANCY SUPPORT CENTER OF SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA On motion by Mr. Lafoon, seconded by Mr. Whitus and with all Council members voting “aye”, Council granted a request by Ms. Lisa Schmidt on behalf of Pregnancy Support Center of Southside Virginia to use Wilck’s Lake on Saturday, April 26, 2008 for their annual Walk for Life.
