The Farmville Area is serviced by two excellent public school systems as well as by several outstanding private schools. Longwood University, Hampden-Sydney College, and Southside Community College offer many residents the opportunity for higher and/or continuing education.

There are two public schools systems that serve the Farmville Area, Prince Edward County Pubic Schools and Cumberland County Public Schools.

Prince Edward Public Schools, located just south of Farmville, educate 2,770 students in grades pre-kindergarten to 12th-grade. For more information on the Prince Edward County Public School system please visit their website at http://www.pecps.k12.va.us/.

Cumberland County Public School system has a student population of 1,400 students in grades pre-kindergarten to 12th-grade. Cumberland County Public Schools are located about 20 minutes from Farmville. Fuqua School is private, pre-kindergarten - 12th grade, college preparatory school. Fuqua School serves more than 500 students from 13 counties. For more information on Fuqua School please visit www.fuquaschool.com.

New Life Christian Academy, founded in 1985, is one of the newest schools in the area. NLCA offers educational instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade. For more information on NLCA visit their web site at www.nlca.net.

Farmville is fortunate to have Longwood University in the heart of Farmville, along with Hampden-Sydney College just down the road and Southside Community College J. H. Daniel Campus less than thirty (30) minutes away in Keysville.

Longwood University is a division one, state university. They offer 100 majors, minors, and concentrations to over 4,500 students. Longwood has been ranked among the top regional public schools in the South in the 2005 U. S. News & World Report "Best Colleges" Guide for seven years in a row. Hampden-Sydney College is a private, selective liberal arts college for men. Founded in 1775, Hampden-Sydney College offers 26 majors and several special programs designed to get you started on your way to becoming a lawyer, doctor, or engineer. Southside Virginia Community College has been offering the residents of Southside Virginia quality, post-secondary educational opportunities for almost 35 years. SVCC offers a wide range of technical, vocational, and community service programs. SVCC has also partnered with Old Dominion University as a distance learning site, bringing many more opportunities for continuing education to the residents of Southside Virginia.
