Businesses located in the Town of Farmville or that are doing a job inside the Town limits must purchase a business license from the Town of Farmville Treasurer's Office. Businesses are assessed an annual Business Professional & Occupational License (BPOL) tax. The BPOL tax is based on the businesses annual gross receipts. The business license is renewable beginning January 1st of each year and is due by the last day of February. Each license also pays a $10.00 issuance fee. New customers: When you apply for a business license you will need to bring with you an estimate of your gross receipts. If you will begin business on January 1st you will estimate gross receipts for a whole year. If you go into business after the first of the year you will estimate gross receipts from the day you begin business until December 31st of the same year. Contractors: Every contractor must complete a Worker's Compensation Form (Form 61-A) whether they have worker's compensation insurance or not as required by the State of Virginia. Form 61-A.
