The Farmville Prince Edward Youth Association offers great recreational opportunities throughout the year to area youth.

The Southside Virginia YMCA is located at 404 East Third Street and has been helping the community become more healthy and fit for over 10 years. To learn more about programs offered and the operation times of the facility please visit them at www.southsidevafamilyymca.org.

The Willis River, the Appomattox River and the James River offer great opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and other water activities. If you enjoy fishing Sandy River Reservoir and the nationally regarded Briery Creek Lake are both less than 15 minutes from downtown.

Bear Creek Lake State Park in Cumberland County and Twin Lakes State Park in Prince Edward County provide many outdoor activities and programs for both adults and youth during the summer months. Holliday Lake State Park and James River State Park are both within an hours drive from Farmville. If golf is more your style check out the 18-hole course at The Manor. The Manor is located just outside town limits on Route 15. Visit The Manor online to book a tee time and to find out what exciting things they have planned for the future. Longwood University operates a public nine-hole course that is located just off Milnwood Road. If you are looking to spend a little more time out in the country playing golf try Brookleigh Country Club. This is a nine-hole golf course in Cumberland County adjacent to the Farmville Regional Airport.

For the spectator, Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College can keep you busy watching football, basketball, softball, baseball, and other sports in there divisions. The local area high schools also offer great entertainment for spectators. And don't forget, if you can not get to the game, listen to WFLO (95.7) or WVHL (92.9), which broadcast many Longwood, Hampden- Sydney and high school games during the season.
