The Town of Farmville has recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Trails, parks and recreational facilities are easily accessible and within walking distance of most Town neighborhoods. Canoeing, fishing, hiking, boating, and sports - it's all waiting for you right here in or near Farmville!

Wilck's Lake Park - relax by the lake near the children's play area, enjoy a picnic lunch, watch the action at the skateboard park, take a stroll on the Sarah Terry Trail or visit the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library next door. A private island is available for parties, weddings and other social events.

Sarah Terry Walking Trail - take the scenic route around Wilck's Lake on this walking trail that begins at the boat ramp parking lot near the Skateboard Park, continues onto the sidewalk on West Third Street at the Creative Learning Center of Farmville, and ends back at the boat ramp parking lot. The total length of the trail is 1.6 miles.

Wilck's Lake Skateboard Park - outdoor fun for observers and skateboarders alike. A free membership card is required; for more information contact Farmville Recreation at 434-392-3737.

Riverside Park - home of First Friday concerts (May through October) and the annual Farmville Wine Festival, Riverside Park is the perfect place to meet and have fun. The park can be rented for community events; for further information, contact the Town Manager's Office at 434-392-5686.

Grove Street Park - if you're looking for a shady spot to read or relax this is the place. It's located at the corner of Grove and Buffalo streets; there's playground equipment and picnic tables available for a snack or picnic.

Dogwood Trail - take a short but scenic walk through a beautiful wooded area located off High Street. The paved half-mile walking trail ends at the parking area behind Centra Southside Community Hospital.

Prince Edward/Farmville Youth Association Field of Dreams - a sports lover's dream located on West Third Street, this sports complex, the home of PEFYA, includes five lighted playing fields. PEFYA provides sports programs to over 700 area youngsters including spring and fall soccer, girls' softball, baseball and basketball.

Virginia State Parks

High Bridge Trail State Park - 31 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Be sure to visit the historic High Bridge that played a pivotal role in the final days of the Civil War. High Bridge Education Specialist Bob Flippen is available to share area history; call 434-315-0457.

Twin Lakes State Park - take to the great outdoors for swimming, camping, fishing, canoeing, and hiking. Twin Lakes, located in the Green Bay area of Prince Edward County, also offers cabins and campsites available for rental.

Bear Creek Lake State Park - if you enjoy hiking in the forest, Bear Creek Park is the place to go. Surrounded by the 16,000-acre Cumberland State Forest, this state park offers camping, hiking, swimming, playgrounds, picnicking, and archery range. Camping and cabins are available for rental for an overnight stay.

Holiday Lake State Park - a favorite of fishermen, this park is located in the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest. Largemouth bass, yellow perch, crappie, and bluegill are abundant in the 150-acre lake inside the park. The nearby state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries delayed-harvest trout stream allows anglers to fish for brown and rainbow trout. There are also excellent trails for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.

James River State Park - relax on the river at one of the newest state parks in our area. There's canoeing, kayaking, and tubing plus nearly 20 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. Overnight camping and cabin facilities are available for rental.
