Garbage Collection & Cleanup Campaign

Rubbish such as worn-out furniture, carpet, appliances, bedding, building materials, and other items, which are too heavy or bulky for one man to carry, will not be picked up by the Refuse Collection Crew, except during clean-up campaigns. The disposal of these items is the responsibility of the owner.

Residential

One garbage Collection Pickup (PDF) per week will be provided to each house. On the day of residential collection, the roll-out cart must be placed at the curb by 7 am and removed from the curb by midnight that same day. Each house is issued one ninety-gallon roll-out cart for garbage. Additional roll-out carts may be purchased by calling the Public Works Department. The Town will maintain minor maintenance on the roll-out carts, such as wheels and caps. Residents who misuse these receptacles may be liable for the cost of repair. Residents must use the roll-out cart provided by the Town.

Only the green roll-out cart will be dumped. Please bag and tie all trash to be put in the roll-out cart. This helps keep the roll-out cart clean and keeps trash from spilling in the process of being dumped. It is the resident's responsibility to keep the roll-out cart clean. New residents should contact the Public Works Department to assure new garbage collections.

Business

Three garbage collection pickups per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) will be provided to each business. On the day of business collection, the roll-out cart must be placed at its place of collection by 6 am. Please bag and tie all trash to be put in the roll-out cart. This helps keep the roll-out clean and keeps trash from spilling out in the process of being dumped. It is the responsibility of each business to keep the roll-outs clean. New businesses should contact the Public Works Department to assure new garbage collections. For more information on garbage collections, please contact the Department of Public Works at 434-392-3331.

Cleanup Campaign

Town of Farmville Spring Clean-up will on Monday, May 8, 2023. If you have any questions please call Public Works at 434-392-3331

The Town of Farmville offers two cleanup campaigns a year during the months of October and April, for items not approved for normal garbage collection. Scheduled dates will be advertised on the website, local newspaper, local radio stations, and local channel 3. Cleanup campaigns are typically on the third Monday of April and the third Monday of October unless a holiday conflicts with the date.

The cleanup campaign provides pickup of items not approved for normal pick up such as furniture, appliances, carpet, bedding, and building materials. All loose items to be collected must be in containers that can be thrown away. Example: If you put small appliances in an old garbage can, the can will be thrown away with the appliances. Brush and recyclables should be separate from other items such as bags, metal, furniture, etc. Motor oil must be used, with a cap on the container and labeled "Motor Oil". Vehicle batteries will not be collected by the Town during this campaign. Residents are asked to have all items at the curbside by 7:30 am on the assigned campaign date. All items collected during the clean-up campaign become the property of the Town of Farmville, which is thereby responsible for its proper disposal.
